Overview

Wine Cellars of Houston started way back in 1998 and transformed their business from simple handyman service to a home improvement company. They build custom wine cellars to match the customer’s budget and its storage capability.

They wanted us to help them enhance their website visibility on the search engines and boost the amount of incoming web traffic into their site.
They also needed to improve the overall look and feel of the website.

Challenges

The website already had a bad link profile which was a hindrance in improving the site’s search engine rankings.

So, we had to disavow the entire set of toxic links. It was to be done manually by going one by one through the entire set of spam links.
There were also multiple on-page issues that needed to be fixed.

Implementation of Plan

After primary analysis of the Client’s website, we figured out that the site was not optimized well for ranking higher on search engine result pages (SERPs), and also the website design was not SEO friendly which was another major factor in bringing down the level of the site to match the standards.
So, in order to drive the website out of these pain areas, we decided to focus on achieving the following primary objectives:
  • Bring the keyword rankings to 1st page of Google
  • Redesign the website to make it more appealing
  • Work on developing positive ROI for the business
One by one, we manually disavowed the all the toxic and low-equity links pointing to the website. All these links were polluting the website credibility as per Google’s and Bing’s SEO standards. We then fixed the on-page SEO factors such as the improving the meta descriptions, SEO friendly URL structure, keyword inclusive titles, H1 tags, adding alt texts, etc. All these factors are vital when it comes to enhancing the user experience on the website and add to the overall SEO performance. So, we planned and implemented our strategy focusing on 3 major phases.
Phase 1 - Build a disavow list by manually checking each and every back link.
This included a lot of work including a mix of manual and automated efforts. We made a list of all the ‘bad’ and ‘non-credible’ backlinks and disavowed all of them. The effort was worth it as it removed our links with spam, corrupt and shady websites and helped us get a clean image.
Phase 2 - Develop and improve the On-Page SEO factors.
In the second phase, we fixed the on-page SEO factors making it easier for the search engines to crawl the website and boost the page rankings. The effort was worth it as it removed our links with spam, corrupt and shady websites and helped us get a clean image.
Phase 3 - Build high equity and authoritative back links to the website.
We started creating and earning backlinks to the website which are credible and noteworthy. This helped in building up the authority and credibility of the site which largely contributes to the SEO requirements nowadays. As we progressed with our work, we started seeing improvements in the website's overall search impressions.

The bold keywords were the primary keywords on which emphasized more, and the remaining ones were chosen to be the secondary keywords. Also, for any penalized website it usually takes a minimum of 3 to 4 months to revive and after one can see any improvement. Within the next 4 months, nearly most of the keywords had hit the 1st page of Google, while two keywords showed significant improvement. We agreed with our client on a target timescale of around 9 months, whereas we successfully achieved our primary objectives within the first 5 months. With thorough page content reviews and continuous rounds of page and site level improvements, we eliminated all visible harmful elements which could hurt the SEO. Our dedicated digital marketing team helped cut down our client’s costs by 50% in addition to generating a positive ROI for the business.
