The client connects shippers with carriers to negotiate cost-effective transportation while ensuring timely and safe delivery. We developed a scalable digital freight platform for web and app, automating their manual processes and legacy infrastructure. The solution offers seamless end-to-end logistics management, enabling real-time tracking and two-way communication between shippers and carriers.

The Challenges We Faced Along the Way

When the client approached us, the company was facing a lot of issues that are inherent in a legacy infrastructure fraught with fragmented manual processes, such as:

  • Gaps in logistical operations and communication
  • Inefficiencies in cost and time management
  • Shipment delays
  • Fluctuating freight transportation costs
  • Lack of transparency and traceability in the shipping process

When trying to address these issues, we were met with legacy systems that were not adequate enough to support the solutions that we had planned. These systems relied heavily on fragmented, manual processes for managing freight shipments, which often led to operational gaps.

We had to help the company increase their profitability. However, we found it particularly challenging to fix the lack of integration between different parts of the supply chain. There were unnecessary delays as we tried to solve the inflated transportation costs.

Our Primary Approach for This Project

Approach

We started by gathering in-depth project requirements through workshops with the client, followed by creating UI mock-ups and wireframes for feedback.

Our development team assessed the technology stack, designed the infrastructure, and incorporated necessary features for shippers, carriers, dispatchers, drivers, and admins. We ensured that the platform would support multilingual communication, real-time tracking, a robust payment system, and a user-friendly interface across both web and mobile platforms. If we had to go into details, then our approach followed these steps -

UI/UX Design and Prototyping
We wanted to create intuitive user interfaces and wireframes that would simplify complex workflows for all stakeholders. The best way to achieve this goal was to implement several iterations of UI mock-ups and prototypes, and then proceed further after receiving client feedback.

Backend Development and Integration
We planned to use Java, Node.js, and Angular, to create a platform that could scale with the client’s growing business needs and handle a high volume of transactions efficiently. Our plan included implementing APIs and cloud-based solutions for real-time data exchange.

Real-Time Communication and Live Tracking
Our client reported delayed shipments and poor communication. That’s why during the planning stage, we have already decided to implement real-time messaging and call functionality directly into the platform as well as a live tracking feature to enable shippers and carriers to track the status of their shipments in real time.

To address the client’s needs, we designed and developed a powerful, comprehensive platform that streamlined their logistics operations and enhanced communication between users. Our solution was tailored to address the complexity of freight transportation while providing seamless functionality for all parties involved. The key features included:

  • Our experienced developers leveraged APIs and cloud technologies to allow continuous and real-time data flow between the booking system and the driver app
  • A user-friendly registration process for shippers, carriers, dispatchers, drivers, and admin, secured with OTP-based verification for easy and safe logins.
  • Real-time communication via an internal messaging and call system, ensuring smooth coordination between all users.
  • Live tracking for shippers to monitor shipments, receive notifications, and manage their logistics effortlessly.
  • Flexible shipment management for carriers and dispatchers, allowing them to assign drivers, manage vehicles, and track shipments in real time.
  • A comprehensive admin panel to manage the entire operation, including RFQ (Request for Quotation) management, shipment details, CMS management, analytics, and commission handling.
  • A secure payment management system, offering multiple payment options and invoice tracking for all users.
  • Multilingual support, enabling users from different European regions to communicate effectively and break language barriers across borders.

Each user has access to a personalized, user-friendly dashboard, offering critical features that streamline freight management, communication, and other essential functions.

RFQ Management

The Request for Quote (RFQ) initiates the business relationship between the shipper, carrier/dispatcher, and driver. It includes details like pick-up and delivery locations, date and time slots, freight type, quantity, dimensions, and loading options (LTL, FTL, or Groupage). Vehicle information, such as type, transport mode, and required equipment, is also provided, tailored to the needs of each user.

Improved Shipment Management

Real-time tracking and status updates minimize delays, leading to better cost management and timely deliveries.

Comprehensive Admin Oversight

The admin panel provides complete control and visibility over all logistics activities, enabling quick management of RFQs, shipment details, payments, and more.

Live GPS Tracking

Users can track shipments in real time through the shipment navigation map, adding transparency to the process and helping optimize time and operations.

Secure, Multi-Mode Payment Processing

The platform supports a variety of payment options, streamlining transactions and ensuring secure financial management for all users.

Report and Analysis

Generate regular reports (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly) on RFQs, shipment creation, payments, and user activities.

Rate and Review

Enables the users to rate and review their experience with shipment delivery, quote generation, and overall freight management process.
